Visitors

Notices at the entrances explain how BWT hope everyone will respect this valuable area, and the trust thanks all visitors who refrain from dropping rubbish, leaving the space as tidy as they found it.

You can report litter, graffiti, or dog fouling to Bearsted Parish Council by texting 07917 624278 or emailing the Parish Clerk.

The Adventure Playground is managed by Bearsted Parish Council.

Age limits of 4-12 years for the play area are clearly stated.

Educational visits are very popular. In 2010 visitors included New Line Learning Centre (ages 15-16); Green Vale Infants, Chatham (ages 6-7); and Thurnham Infants (ages 6-7). Younger visitors, who write us lovely letters afterwards, have asked "are there bears in the old wood?" and "do you have a Gruffalo?".

The Sutton Street entrance has a special gate for wheelchairs and scooters, which opens with RADAR keys, available for £5 from the Deputy Chairman.

The BWT Scooter (for use on BWT land only) can be borrowed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays between 09.00 and 12.00. It is an Adventurer 6 Compact with 4 inch ground clearance and a maximum speed of 6 mph. Please book your ride by phone at least one day in advance, and bring at least one walker to accompany you. There is no charge, but a small donation towards maintenance costs would be greatly appreciated.

Horses (and goats) nearby should only be fed by their owners!

The Major's Lake Fishing Syndicate have requested that people exercising dogs on BWT land stop them getting through the fences, disturbing fishermen or swimming in the lake. Following an oil-spill on the A20 in January 2010, which theatened Major's Lake, BWT learned that members of the public are encouraged to report any signs of pollution they may notice to the Reactive Pollution Team on 01622 602202 or via the Environment Agency hotline 0800 807060.

Dog Litter Bins can be found at the entrances to BWT land, opposite the Bowls Club, near Holy Cross Church and in Gore Meadow, and Bearsted Parish Council organise twice weekly emptying.

Dog litter bags are available from the Parish Council, Bearsted News, Taylors Newsagents, Madginford Vets and Roseacre School. Pet Owners are requested to use them.
