BWT submits revised plan to create car parking area

Bearsted Woodland Trust (BWT) has submitted a revised design of its plan for a parking area off the A20 (Ashford Road), moving the proposed entrance from the existing Gore Cottage/pedestrian shared access to an entirely separate position leading only to the car park.

BWT believes this revision will meet concerns expressed by local residents regarding congestion at the original access point. As part of the revised application to Maidstone Borough Council, BWT has also prepared a tree survey and method statement.

The scheme to create a parking area will benefit BWT’s increasing number of visitors, ease the pressure on the village’s Church Lane car park and reduce Ashford Road parking problems.

Bearsted Parish Council has decided unanimously to support the revised plan. Public reaction to the scheme has also been very positive, with over 80 per cent of comments received in favour.

In response to comments, BWT has revised the entrance to the car park, contacted KCC Highways officers concerning the A20 access and undertaken to address other concerns as it moves forward with the project.

The planning application, now validated by Maidstone Borough Council, can be viewed here.
