Trees; the Scots Pine

The Scots Pine is the only truly native pine in the UK, and it was a favourite with Walter Fremlin (1843-1925) of Milgate Park.  Walter inherited the Maidstone Brewery and owned Church Farm as well as Milgate.  He used to drive round Bearsted in his trap with pine seedlings and plant them around the village, which accounts for many local drains blocked with needles.

BWT have several large Scots Pines as well as some other varieties of pine, mostly at the Roundwell end of Moore Meadow.  These cones are not Scots.
